Picking the perfect place for your engagement photos isn’t as simple as you’d think. You really need to have a sense of what vibe you want to portray in your photos. Are you looking for something more romantic and whimsical, rustic or urban?
What’s YOUR vibe?
The most important thing I tell all of my clients is that you should pick a location that really reflects your vibe as a couple. There are so many incredible places to photograph in the Niagara region, so how do we find the right one for them? When helping my couples decide what location to do their engagement sessions at, I like to ask these questions.
- What sort of things are you into? Any hobbies?
- Are you a laid-back cozy at home kinda couple?
- Are you an adventurous couple? Outdoorsy?
- Do you want to be near the water and or maybe the beach?
- Are you more city vibes, loving urban streets and architecture?
- Maybe you’re into the rustic romantic vibes?
- Or are you guys into getting dressed up and looking for something more formal and romantic?
From there we can pick the perfect backdrop for your Niagara engagement session. It also helps that I have a list of my 5 fave engagement session locations that are my go-to and each one encompasses one or more of those above-listed vibes! Maybe this can help you pick the perfect spot for your Niagara Engagement Session!
1. The Secret Beach in NOTL
This one is my very new favourite spot and if you know what beach i’m talking about then you know! Only recently has this secret little slice of heaven in Niagara on the Lake become more exposed to the public due to some semi-viral engagement sessions featuring this spot going around online. To be honest that’s how I was able to find it, by asking friends of friends who knew the couple. It’s a small little beach tucked away and not known to tourists, only the locals. So to protect this amazing spot I will not disclose the address here. I only let my booked couples in on that info!
Why I love it?
It’s got a little bit of everything, Forest, Fields, Cliffs, Old romantic fallen trees, fire pit on the beach, seclusion….water access! What’s not to LOVE! You really can get creative in this spot, it’s the perfect little romantic date night getaway. Here are some snaps from a few of last summer’s sessions at The Secret Beach!
2. Niagara Falls Botanical Gardens
The Niagara Falls Botanical Gardens is a perfect location for couples looking to have a Niagara Engagement Session. It’s romantic gardens, mazes, tree-lined pathways, gazeebo and old stone historic buildings make this one of the most versatile Niagara locations.
Why I Love It?
You can dress up and or dress casually for your engagement session here! Lots of different spots we can play in and the lighting is always perfect during golden hour here. Plus it’s always perfectly manicured between Spring and Fall making this a choice location for many of our Loverly couples.
3. Balls Falls Conservation Area
Are you looking for a Rustic Niagara engagement session with a hint of adventure? Then the Balls Falls Conservation Area is the perfect Niagara engagement session location for you! I’m quite familiar with this location as I have photographed both families and couples here a least 6-10 times a year for the last 15 years!
Why I Love it!
The conservation area has a huge variety of gorgeous places to shoot. I have literally shot here during every season and it NEVER disappoints. Here’s a list of some of the amazing features this area has to offer!

It’s a new rule since COVID but I have a great relationship with the park so getting a permit shouldn’t be a problem! If we go on a weekday chances are they won’t charge us but we still need permission.
