A Winter Wonderland in High Park Toronto
When Melissa and Paul found me on WeddingWire and hired me for their September 2019 Toronto wedding last summer I was super excited because:
- They are totally my ideal couple, super fun, laid back and true romantics!
- We share a bond and love for traveling
- Their venue, the Palais Royale in Toronto is hella gorgeous and on the Lakeshore!
- They wanted a wintery engagement session!
I was dying for a couple that would brave the cold temps with me for a long time. We held tentative dates from December to February because the weather in Southern Ontario is so very unpredictable. They chose High Park as their location as it’s a place they go to often. As a former Torontonian myself I also felt it would make the perfect backdrop for their session.
Waiting for snow in Toronto
I live in the Niagara region near Lake Erie so we get tonnes of lake effect snow during the winter. Toronto only had a couple of snow dumps in December and January and our timing didn’t work out on those days. We set our date for February 3, 2019, and crossed all of our fingers and toes that mother nature would cooperate. The week before, our prayers were answered. Toronto and Niagara got a major dump of the beautiful white stuff! Yay!
The only problem was it happened earlier in the week and the temps were due to go up and up. On that Sunday I was a bit nervous because as I was driving out of Niagara I noticed that all of the snow was now melted! UGH! The temp that day was a balmy 11 degrees in Niagara, I thought for sure we were not going to get the backdrop we were looking for. We were all set to shoot anyway so I decided we would just make it work.
I called Melissa from the road to tell her I was on my way and told her that Niagara had zero snow left, she was surprised cause she had just passed High Park on her way home and there was still plenty of it! YAY!!! I was super stoked that we would still get our wintery wonderland at High Park Toronto.
High Park Toronto was Perfection!
We met up in High Park Toronto and proceeded to have an incredibly fun time exploring the park, everywhere I turned I was inspired. Working with Melissa + Paul was way to fun and they are totally adorable together, you can just tell by looking at these photos that they are a perfect match. Paul is so princely and Melissa reminds me of Belle from Beauty & The Beast. I can not wait to capture all of the gorgeous moments of their fairytale Toronto wedding this September!
