When Katie and Shane asked me to document their rustic and elegant wedding I was so honored. Katie was a bride’s maid at her best friends wedding that I had documented in Mexico the year before. Booking someone from another wedding that I’ve documented is one of the greatest honours for any photographer.
As Katie described her wedding day dreams to me I got so excited, her rustic and elegant wedding ideas were amazing and I could not wait to document them!
The weather forecast was not looking good for their special day, but everyone was in good spirits. As I arrived, the sun was shining, and we were all on a high, thinking that we weren’t going to be getting the rain that was expected. I got some lovely photos of all the ladies and the little ones getting ready. Katie’s two little girls are WAAAY to cute and completely stole the show. You can imagine how happy they were that mommy and daddy were getting married and to see mommy dressed like a princess.
Before I left we headed to this gorgeous little spot behind her parent’s house for some photos of all the girls, it was there that Katie decided to show off her Irish dancing skills on a tiny wooden bridge, it was the sweetest little jig that I’ve ever witnessed. Photo evidence below!
As I was getting ready to leave for the reception the clouds rolled in hard and it started to rain. Oh and did I forget to tell you, this was an outdoor ceremony on a family farm? There was no barn alternative either. The entire 20 min drive to the location I prayed to mother nature to give these guys a break. They had put so much work in putting this ceremony together and I just wanted it to be perfect for them. Shane and his friends actually built the gorgeous wood bridge to the island in the middle of the pond where they were getting married. He also built their wedding arbor.
When I arrived the rain was coming down hard. But the bride had not arrived yet so many of us waited in our cars until the limo arrived. Just as Katie pulled up the rain began to lighten up and we decided to go forward as planned. Once it was time for her to walk the aisle the rain completely stopped! It was magical and like a true blessing from the heavens. There wedding was super sweet and full of sentiment. The most heartfelt part of the day was when I found out that the farm we were on was a place where his dad reared and trained horses. At one point, in the pouring rain, Shane got on his dad’s horse. It was an incredibly touching moment and I was so honored to take that special photo for him.
While I would like to take more photos of this stunning couple, we got what we could (which are all incredible) before the rain started up again and we were off to the reception. The reception was at The Italian Canadian Culture Centre in Port Colborne. I had never been to this hall and it did not disappoint! Katie and Shane’s rustic and elegant touches really brought the room to life.
I could tell you so many more stories about this couples special day but I think it’s better to show you than tell you.
