Katie and Blake’s wedding was the first of my 2019 spring wedding season. I was so incredibly excited as I knew these guys were not shy in front of the camera and that their Club Roma wedding was going to be incredibly stunning. It had the recipe of being the perfect day.
That is until I woke-up super sick. Like, can’t get out of bed, bucket on the floor sick. I knew it wasn’t the flu, it was more like bad sushi sick. I just needed some Gravol, Gatorade, and time to rest and help my stomach settle down.
To say that I was freaking out is an understatement. In my 15 years of documenting weddings, I had never missed one. I came close once before when I had popped a rib but I still managed to make that one. This is every photographer’s worst nightmare. So what did I do?
My dear friend, colleague and savior, Megan Muir of Muir image Photo. When I frantically called to tell her what was happening, she instantly replied with “I got you, girl!” PHEW! I was elated as she is my most trusted photog friend in the region and her and I have such similar styles, I knew I could trust her to take care of Katie and Blake just like I would.
A frequent question that I get when booking new clients is what if an emergency happens on our wedding day and you can’t make it. I always tell them this story and tell them, I don’t know how it will go exactly if something were to happen on your day but I can promise you that I will not leave you hanging. I’ve heard horror stories of clients booking a photographer and then having a stranger show up on their wedding. I would NEVER EVER do this. Calling Katie with the news that I was not feeling well made me feel even sicker, but giving her a heads up was important to me.
I’m a total people pleaser. I was however happy that I could put her worries at ease that I had someone coming. She was incredibly understanding and I told her that I would do my best to see her at the ceremony.
After a couple of hours of rest, I still felt pretty awful but was feeling more steady and able to get myself together. I made my way to Club Roma with my assistant Lauren, who by the way, this was her first-ever wedding with me. We arrived just in time to document the ceremony.
The adrenalin of documenting a wedding really helped carry me through. I felt good about staying to do their wedding party portraits in knowing that Megan and Lauren were there to help me.
I’m happy I was able to make this work. This couple and their tribe were all stunning and total naturals in front of the camera. It was so amazing getting to work with all of them and they were all so nice.
Club Roma is stunning in all of the prime wedding seasons. I was elated that even in the early spring with no blooms, it was picture perfect. Their rustic outdoor wedding arbor is stunning. And the big field out back makes for a simple but beautiful backdrop.
After we finished up with the spring wedding portraits I was able to stay for the bridal party’s introductions and Katie and Blake’s first dance. The Starlight Ballroom at Club Roma is so gorgeous and romantic. I love the dreaminess of how the first dance photos turned out.
Club Roma is an exceptional spring wedding venue. If you’re looking for a romantic venue at any time of year, with lots of options they are one to check out. Links to their website and all the vendors who contributed to this gorgeous wedding are listed below.

To us, it was really important having all of our family members there. The ones who traveled from all over the country just to be there on our special day. Also, we both enjoyed getting ready with our parties and the anticipation leading up to the ceremony. It was a long day but it was so much fun with so much emotion.
Dusty Roses, golds, ivory, champagnes. I love neutral colours and pinks so it was the perfect combo for spring. The touch of gold added those elegant vibes.
Always remember us this way. – it is from A star is born. We actually had a different song picked but once we watched this movie together we both fell in love.
I think our wedding was extra special for us because our son was there. I love that he got to be apart of those special moments with us. Club Roma was the first venue we visited but we just KNEW it was perfect for what we wanted. We wanted to have something romantic but also hip, fun, and easygoing. That’s exactly who we are as a couple. We loved being able to walk in with Bodhi in our arms.
Just go with the flow lol! Things are not always in your control. It’s so much easier to just relax and let things play out because no matter what, the day will be perfect regardless.
Yes Definitely!
